At what age is a child capable of learning to play video games?

My fiance is trying to teach our 2 and a half year old to play mario kart and smash bros. He has tried to teach her on nintendo 64 and the wii, and I think he even tried to get her to learn super nintendo hehehe. Anyway I am wondering, is it even possible for such a young kid to play these machines?

My year old he really just enjoys watching others play lot and doing pretty fast so he really just enjoys.

Its not impossible but is it right??? Don’t either of you feel your child should be enjoying and learning 2 to 3 yo activities??
