Sports Sunglasses

Trendy sunglasses are really popular and looked for. But the sunglasses have another aspect as well. Why sports sunglasses?
Different from casual eyewear, sports sunglasses are practical items that incorporate special technical features. While fancy sunglasses make a combination of protection and style features, sports sunglasses emphasize their functional size over the trendy one. Usually designed to also match fashion trends, such items impress by the way they serve the user outdoors. Healthy eyes and free of injury with maximum of visibility, this is the promise of sports sunglasses, and well reputed manufacturers surely keep it. Cycling, extreme sports, hiking and even golfing require the use of special protective sunglasses to stop the eye contact with the UV rays.

The extreme sports features and the casual street style often meet in some sports sunglasses models. Polarized for a perfect anti-glare feature, such items will be comfortable and actually priceless when skiing, snowboarding or enjoying any other sport. Face hugging contours, high precision hinges and self-locking screws, these are indeed features that enable sports sunglasses to stand aside by quality. For increased durability and resistance to impact, sports sunglasses usually have polycarbonate lenses and nylon frames. The breakage hazard makes glass incompatible with sports activities.

Besides the blockage of the ultraviolets, sports sunglasses could also prevent the contact will all sorts of debris or insects that get in the eyes at high speeds. With the right pair of sports sunglasses squinting against the sun will become a bad memory. Therefore, wraparounds could be the best sports sunglasses ever invented thanks to the full protection they provide to the eyes.

It is difficult to make a choice sometimes give the large variety of designs and models available with sports sunglasses. An optician’s shop and not the Internet makes the best place to shop for such items. Not being able to try the glasses on could be a major disadvantage as you don’t know how they fit. Even when you get the right size, the entire physiognomy could be responsible for the mismatch. Maybe the design is not good for your nose, eyes and face shape, and you need to search a bit more; this is the reason why Internet orders may fail to satisfy your needs.

Skydiving Tips : Static Line (Training Method)

Static line jumps are the focus of this installment of our go skydiving guide.

In static line skydiving, a line is pre-attached to the parachute pack on the jumper’s back. This static line releases the parachute automatically as the jumper leaves the plane.

Exiting at about 3,500-4,000 feet (1,067-1,220m) above the ground, though in some cases higher, the line opens the chute a few seconds after you leave the plane and your rate of descent drops from about 120 mph (193 kph) to around 10 mph (16 kph).

Instructors will be in the plane with you prior to your jump and will ensure that the line mechanism is attached properly but they don’t exit the plane with you. Normally though, as you descend, you’ll typically be in two-way radio contact with an instructor on the ground who will provide directions on landing.

While the parachute is deployed for the jumper, training is still required for this type of skydiving. The jumper must learn how to properly exit the plane and must grasp landing technique and safety measures, including deployment of the reserve parachute. This kind of training is much less involved than accelerated freefall training and usually takes about half a day.

Prices for static line jumping vary depending on the number of jumps purchased and the location of the skydiving school. However, this is often cheaper than other forms of skydiving because there is relatively little training and one instructor can train a small group of students.

Static line jumping has the advantage of getting students up in the air quickly and of your allowing them to be on their own from the second they leave the plane (those who are not sure that this latter point is an advantage should try tandem jumping first).

However, it’s not seen as a long term option for those who plan to become regular skydivers; such people tend to move onto accelerated freefall training and solo jumps due to the increased freefall time experienced with them.

Skydiving 101 : AFF Training

Accelerated freefall training is the focus of this installment of our go skydiving guide.

Accelerated freefall (or simply AFF) training is a way of learning to skydive that, as the name suggests, gets you in the air and freefalling on yourself as quickly as possible. It’s the most expensive method of training but is recommended for those who plan on skydiving regularly.

AFF training is done in stages, with the first part taking place on the ground. A series of lectures and demonstrations (normally taking 6-8 hours) will cover topics such as what to expect from the experience, how to achieve and maintain a stable body position and how to deploy your parachute.

Following this initial theoretical training, students will go up in a plane with their instructors so that they can put their new learning into practice. As in tandem jumping, the instructor exits the plane with the student, but rather than being attached closely by a harness, the instructor simply holds the student by the hand or wrist.

The instructor guides you so that you’re able and ready to deploy your parachute at the proper time and can land safely on your own. If necessary, in case of any problems arising, the instructor can open your parachute for you.

The instructor can use pre-determined sets of hand signals or two-way radio (usually the helmets will have radios) to communicate with the student. Any problems or concerns should be immediately communicated. The instructor will observe the student throughout the jump and provide advice afterwards that can be used to improve technique.

After a few jumps, there may be more classroom time to teach you about more advanced skills. As you progress through multiple jumps you’ll gain experience in skydiving techniques and skills and, in as few as 8 assisted jumps and 10 solo skydives, you can be qualified enough to attain a skydiving license.

Beginner’s Guide To Surfing : Surf Safety

In this installment of our how to surf guide we look at how to surf safely.

Some of the most valuable keys in learning how to surf safely are recognizing the power of the ocean and the weather, staying in shape, and remaining alert.

It is important to realize that no matter how strong you think you are, you are no match for the ocean or the force of an average swell. Staying alert is key because water patterns will change rapidly and unexpectedly, especially rip currents and undertows.

Be conscious of weather conditions by checking the local forecast, every morning prior to going to the beach, as well as watching the sky while surfing. Some other elements to be aware of in the weather are heavy rain and strong winds, which can inhibit visibility; make it difficult to stay on your board; and produce extremely large waves and unforeseeable water activity.

Be mindful of certain hazards in the ocean that could threaten your safety: piers, wave breakers, rocky outcroppings, and sea creatures. Your position along the beach will change with the flow of the currents, so just because you may have had no issues during your paddle out, does not mean you will not run into them later. You also need to keep in mind that you will not always be able to see these obstacles.

If you do ever encounter a dangerous situation, being in top physical condition will help you get out of it. Any and all exercise that maintains and builds stamina and strength is advised.

Even if you’re fit and know what you should be doing it’s easy to caught up in the excitement and fail to exercise common sense and good judgment. Collisions and crossed paths can be avoided in shared spaces if you employ good communication. In the beginning, take a more accomplished surfer with you to assure that you and those around you are safe in the ocean.

Skiing Guide : Ski Clothes

Ski clothing is the topic for this part of our learn to ski guide.

To ski safely and properly, you need to wear clothing that protects you against cold temperatures, external humidity and internal dampness, and, for a week of skiing, it’s recommended that you take with you: fleece top x 3; sweater x 3; goggles x 1; hat x 1; headband x 1; thermal underwear x 2 sets; ski gloves x 1 pair; ski jacket x 1; ski pants x 1; ski socks x 3 pairs; sunglasses x 1.

Rather than wearing one thick layer of clothing, it is recommended that you dress in layers, and stick to the standard three-layers system, which includes a base layer, an insulating layer, and a protective layer.  You’ll want an outer layer that is made of a fabric that allows air to flow through it (permitting perspiration to escape), and that is water and windproof.

Start with a fleece, which is warm, light-weight and dries quickly, then add sweater of acrylic or wool and over it all wear either eider or goose-down ski pants and jacket to increase protection from the elements.

Your gloves should be thick enough to protect your fingers and hands from the elements, but must also be flexible enough to allow you to hold your ski poles comfortably, and you should choose a warm fleece hat (make sure it covers your ears), as you always lose a great deal of body heat through the top of your head.

To keep from having blisters and cold feet, choose your socks with care, selecting those that are thick and made from a stretchy fabric and only wearing one pair at a time to keep from decreasing circulation to your feet, thereby making them colder.  Choose underwear that are made from wool, which will keep you warmer than cotton, and make sure you select thermal underwear for extra protection from the elements.

Sunglasses should: provide 100% ultra violet (UV) protection; cover your eyes from all angles; securely wrap around your head / ears; be shatterproof.  You can wear goggles with your sunglasses whenever you may be skiing in snow or rain.

The quality of all of these items can vary greatly so it’s recommended to buy brand names if you can.

Going Skiing : How To Ski Safely

We look at safety considerations in this installment of our learn to ski guide.

Though skiing has a relatively low injury rate when compared to other recreational activities, thousands of skiers are still hurt every year. The nature of it means that you’ll always be at a degree of risk, but there are things that you can do to minimize the risk of sustaining an injury.

Check that you have all the necessary equipment, and that it’s in good, working condition, and that you‘re wearing the appropriate attire.  Your boots, bindings and skis should all be tailored to your weight, height, and level of expertise and should be checked over by a certified ski shop after every prolonged absence of use.  Your clothing must be wind and water resistant and should keep you adequately warm (your head, hands and feet being particularly susceptible to the cold).

You need to feel confident that you can ski before you do so.  While family and friends may know what they’re talking about, it’s a better idea to learn from a certified ski instructor.  Improving your technique and skill lessens the chances that you’ll make a mistake that will result in injury.  It’s a proven fact that taking ski lessons reduces your risk of injury on the slopes.

Staying safe means staying within your level of proficiency, which includes keeping your speed safe in relation to how well you ski, and avoiding unpredictable maneuvers or stopping unnecessarily, and further includes paying attention to the things around you, such as how crowded the slope is, what the weather is like, and the condition of the slope.  Just as with traffic, you must obey all the posted signs on the slopes, especially those posted at the top and bottom and where slopes merge, and if you end up on a slope that makes you question your safety, don’t attempt to ski it, rather side-step down it with your skis on.

Don’t try to ski yourself into shape, rather, prepare months before your planned ski trip with a good strengthening and conditioning program.  Your focus should be on aerobic training, complemented by some weight training.  You will not be able to ski for very long without succumbing to fatigue if you are not well-conditioned and physically fit.  Be aware of your own physical limits, and stake frequent rest breaks, as skiing when you are tired can be dangerous.

Re-apply your sunscreen during your rest breaks, and make sure you rehydrate as well.  Regularly drinking water is important as failure to do so can result in nausea, fainting or altitude sickness, and sunscreen (factor 30+) is essential, even on cloudy days, because the sun’s rays are stronger at high altitudes and the snow reflects its rays.

Protecting You Body In Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycles are more prone to accidents as well as fatalities. The accidents are caused due to other vehicles or obstructions coming in its path or riders error. A major risk is concussion and brain damage due to violent head injury. Injury to the chin is also common. This can be reduced sharply when the rider and the pillion rider wears head protection gear that is as per approved standards. Other main forms of injuries are breakage of joints such as shoulders, elbows, knees, hips and wrists, spine, neck and fingers. Shoulder and pelvis injuries are the most common. These injuries can be minimized, if not prevented, by using extra padding in jackets and pants at vulnerable joint regions. The extra padding can be either foam padding or dual density foam.

Damage to the skin and muscle occur when the body scrapes on the ground in the aftermath of the accident. Such damages can be minimized if not prevented by wearing protective apparel. It could be the use of a jacket made of cordura, ballistic nylon, Kevlar, leather and other synthetics. It is useful to wear reinforced pants. There are ways to curtail motorcycle accidents. An important precaution that can be easily adopted is to increase the visibility of the motorcycle and the rider. The use of the head lamps of the motorcycle and retro-reflective strips could make the motorcycle more visible. The rider can wear jackets which are highly visible even from a distance such as the use of bright red, yellow or orange colored jackets. Knowing the causes of the accidents and ways of avoiding them is crucial.

Scooters are categorized under motorcycle. There are mobility scooters, gas scooters, motorized scooters, electric scooters and gas scooters. Push scooters or Kick scooters are increasingly popular amongst kids. There are no engines and so no pollution to bother about. It moves with a push and glide motion. Legs are used for pushing the kick scooter. Electric kick scooters are also available in the market. Kick scooters are useful, fun and moreover cheap. Razor, for instance, produces kick scooters such as Razor Kick Scooter, and Razor A & AW kick Scooter,  electric scooters such as Razor E200S/E225S Scooter and Razor E100 Series Scooters, miniature electric scooters, miniature electric motorcycle as Razor Pocket Rocket and electric wagons.

Cars and heavy vehicles dominate the roadways and highways. The system of road transportation is biased is biased against two wheelers. Motor vehicle drivers too show an intolerant attitude to the motorcycles often encroaching and dominating the space on the road.
